One tornado touched down in Jefferson County and two in Bullitt County during a series of storms that swept across the Louisville area Thursday night, the National Weather Service said today.
A tornado with winds around 85 miles an hour was confirmed near Clifton Avenue and Brownsboro Road, probably around 7 p.m., said weather service meteorologist Don Kirkpatrick. It was the weakest classification of tornados, he said.
John Denman, another meteorologist with the service, said late this morning that he had led a team that surveyed Bullitt County. He confirmed two tornadoes touched down about two miles north of Shepherdsville, one just east and one just west of Preston Highway, both around 11:25 p.m. Thursday.
He said numerous trees were blown down, one cinder-block garage was collapsed, several homes had shingle and gutter damage and one tin shed’s roof was torn off by the wind.
Kirkpatrick said the weather service also had survey teams checking reported tornado touchdowns Thursday night in Clark and Perry counties in Southern Indiana and in Breckinridge and Hancock counties in Kentucky.
